Summer School on Diplomacy – “New Perspectives on Diplomacy”

The Summer School on Diplomacy – “New Perspectives on Diplomacy” was the 3rd edition of the Summer School edition of the UN Youth Association of Romania and was organized at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest as well, between the 25th and 31st of July 2013. The Summer School was organized with the support of the Faculty of Law, the University of Bucharest, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Romanian Association of Foreign Policy.

The theme of the Summer School on Diplomacy was “New Perspectives on Diplomacy” and its main purpose was to offer the participants insight about the changes in diplomacy, updated to our contemporary world. The themes of the seminars stretched from traditional diplomacy to nuclear and environmental diplomacy, thus covering a wide array of areas where diplomacy is practiced. This edition benefitted as well from a practical part which consisted of a series of seminars during the last two days of the School, where the participants were given the opportunity to simulate an actual round of diplomatic negotiations in order for them to be provided with a full understanding of the diplomatic environment, the professional requirements of such a position and the decision-making process in international institutions. The Speakers were also renowned members of the diplomatic scene, as well as the academic environment, such as: HE Mr. Mircea Geoana, Mr. Niculae Spiroiu (Honorary Chairman of the National Defence College,Mr. Gabriel Micu, PhD, Diplomat and Lecturer at the Romanian Diplomatic Institute, Mr. Felix Zaharia, Diplomat with the International Law and Treaties Department at the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. László Borbély, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, Ms. Diana Tihan, Diplomat at the Embassy of Romania to Tokyo and at the Embassy of Romania to Beijing, as well as experts from Ford Romania, OMA Vision and others.
